KUMAVISION: ERP industry software with IoT integration

The ERP specialist KUMAVISION is now extending the functionality of its industry software with an IoT adapter. The new software module enables easy integration of IoT-based sensors, machines and other devices into the ERP software Microsoft Dynamics NAV. Sensor data and other information from the Internet of Things can thus be easily transferred to the ERP software and used as a starting point for analyzes and further workflows. KUMAVISION has built the IoT adapter manufacturer-independent, so companies can easily start with industry 4.0 projects.

The idea behind the IoT adapter is as simple as it is convincing: IoT data automatically triggers arbitrarily definable processes and workflows in the ERP system, and the entire business logic of the KUMAVISION industry software can be used. The transmission and, if necessary, preparation of the IoT data can be done via the Microsoft Azure IoTCloud but local scenarios are possible without any problems. Very few companies use homogeneous machinery. KUMAVISION therefore pursues a manufacturer-independent approach and supports the REST API, which is widely used in the IoT environment. Using this programming interface, the ERP system can communicate with IoT sensors and devices from different manufacturers. The IoT adapter is scalable and has a very secure architecture.

Various scenarios

The IoT integration into KUMAVISION's ERP software enables the digitization of numerous processes - not just in production.

The spectrum ranges from the automatic ordering of material via dash buttons, which are attached to parts containers in the warehouse, to the use of data glasses to display order picking orders in the warehouse or assembly steps in production, to complex IoT integrations with extensive workflow functionalities ,

For example, the use of RFID enables order tracking along the entire supply chain. The status of a production order or the storage location of an article can be called up at any time in the ERP system. Tools can be assigned directly to orders and machines with RFID. Without manual input, the information is transferred to the ERP. This also benefits quality assurance, as it is always clear when and which order was processed with which tool on which machine. At the same time, the automatic recording of operating data forms an important basis for controlling, which can access current data in ERP.

New business models such as "Pay per Use" are also possible with the IoT adapter: Produced quantities or operating hours are automatically transferred to the ERP software, which independently prepares the monthly billing.

Even more complex scenarios such as predictive maintenance are possible with the KUMAVISION solution and show the potential of the interaction between IoT and ERP: Sensor data point to an imminent defect, for example an increasingly restless running warehouse. The ERP system evaluates this information, plans the deployment of a technician on the basis of the determined error code, arranges a transfer order for equipping the service vehicle with the required spare parts, calculates the optimal route and records the working times.

Future-proof platform

The ERP industry software from KUMAVISION is based on Dynamics NAV or on the CloudVersion Dynamics 365 Business Central. This gives KUMAVISION customers direct access to the Microsoft portfolio, which in addition to the Azure IoTCloud including innovative tools for AI, image recognition, voice output, big data and business analytics. The new CloudPlatform Dynamics 365 gives IoT projects an extra boost, since all applications work with a uniform database, which further simplifies IoT integration and cross-functional workflows.
